Fighting For the Spotlight

Have you ever a brochure or an advertisement a company creates about itself or an available job position with them? Does anyone really think that anyone can be that happy with Chicago email marketing or copyediting as their life’s one true goal and fulfillment? The worst one I read was for this rent-a-car business. Their worker wake sup bright and early, happy because he knows he’s going to help so many people today. Smiling, he brings cars around for everyone and washes them and helps fill out all that dandy paperwork. While driving a car somewhere, he stops off at his favorite Italian restaurant for lunch because he needs those calories to keep him going for the rest of the workday. Then its more of the same with the worker acting like he’s thrilled to be driving and washing cars and on some kind of drug to make him always smiling, always helpful and polite. Maybe his Italian lunch was drugged. He has to understand that it’s only artificial happiness though! It won’t fill that void within! Only love can! Friendship! Hope! Faith! Whatever. I’m sure you get my point. In trying to make the job seem infinitely appealing, they only succeeded in making it seem really creepy instead.
